Easy, relaxed drives exploring the scenic coastline, along the Great Ocean Road, with the 12 Apostles, wreck beach, and the Bay of Islands. Or travel the Great Ocean Road east toward Apollo Bay and visit Maits Rest fern gully walk, and Cape Otway.
Explore the Otway National Park offering something for everyone ~ Glow worms at night, koala spotting through the day, a wonderful range of waterfalls, rainforests and fern gully walks, isolated beaches, surfing, fishing, and rock pools to explore.
Enjoy the many walks through rainforests to wonderful waterfalls or around the farm down to the river.

 The recently opened Great Ocean Walk ~ which incorporates Johanna Beach ~ extends right along the coast line.  Tackle the full 91kms or try bits and pieces to and from Johanna Beach.

STEP ON/OFF POINTS ~ FOR GREAT OCEAN WALKERS
Plan to stay with us for a couple of nights or more while doing the walk.  With advanced notice, we're  happy to assist with drop offs at Johanna Beach or nearby Aire River for the walk (approx 5 hrs) back to Johanna Beach ~ or a more relaxed stroll (2 hours) from Castle Cove.  We can also recommend local car shuttle services

Bike riding is becoming popular in the Otways with nearby tracks such as the Old Beechy Rail Trail suitable for mountain bikes and the newly developed Forrest Mountain bike track  

Visit Seaside towns Apollo Bay (35 mins to east) with its foreshore market every Saturday or drive the 12 Apostle Coastline to Port Campbell (40 mins to the west). Both towns provide a range of shops, fresh fish co-ops, & safe swimming beaches.

Drive inland to Hinterland regions such as the township of Forrest, and visit  Lake Elizabeth for some platypus spotting, Stevenson Falls, & the Barwon reservoir.

Activities such as Horse riding is available at nearby Bimbi Park.  
Visit one of the most unique attractions in the Otways ~ The Otway Fly Treetop Walk ~ The highest and longest tree top walk in the world. Climb the tower high above a beautiful Otway native forest. 
For History buffs, visit the Cape Otway Lighthouse Station ~ Australia’s oldest mainland lighthouse 1848.
Visit local galleries, museums, and markets with crafts in furniture making, glass sculpture, ceramics & painting.  Or pick up the keys and go for a swim at our local indoor heated pool.

Dining Out - Lavers Hill (The highest point on the Great Ocean Road!) is our nearest town (8kms) Try the local Tearooms, www.blackwoodgully.com Cafes, or Tavern Bistro. A fine selection of venues for Brunch, Breakfasts, Devonshire teas, Lunch or an Evening meal. Takeaways available too.  Ask us about Dining In options ~ where a choice of fine meals can be freshly made and delivered to your cottage.
